The dream of a true and stable democracy cannot be realized without demolishing the current electoral system, which is erected on fraud, culture of winning horses, hereditary politics, corruption and hooliganism. A system that represents the aspirations of the people has the potential of delivering in the true sense. The performance of the government over the last four years is pathetic to say the least. The system for which all politicians have got together is in fact real enemy of the nation.
Dr Raheeq Abbasi, Secretary General of MQI, expressed these views while addressing intellectual sitting of the senior students of Minhaj University today. The subject of the discussion was “real democracy and current electoral system.”
Dr Abbasi said that those who had the opportunity to turn things around for several times were hell bent on saving the current system as it suited their interests. He said that corrupt political mafia and present system were integral to each other and there was a need to understand the nexus. He said that even hundreds of elections would not resolve the problems facing the nation.
