On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that media was a mirror, which showed politicians their faces but instead of reforming themselves, they often resort to breaking the mirror. He said that media was a messenger and playing an important role in educating the society by identifying its flaws. He said that the concept of democracy was not complete without democracy as latter enlightened citizens of the importance of making informed choices.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the ruling elite had so monopolized the decision making processes that change was not possible in the country with the result that the situation was going from bad to worse. He said that media needed to highlight the mother of all problems i.e. electoral system which kept the people hostage. As long as people did not understand this reality, they would not enjoy the essence of democracy. Media must focus on increasing public awareness in this regard, he added.
