September 6 a reminder of great sacrifices: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that September 6 reminds us of great sacrifices rendered by the armed forces and people of Pakistan for the defence of the motherland. He said that some occasions are highly important in the lives of the nations, which make them show their true character and establish unique identity.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while addressing a ceremony in memory of the martyrs of 1965 war held under the banner of Pakistan Awami Tehreek in Lahore today.

He said that the Day demanded of every citizen of the country to make protection of ideological and territorial frontiers of the country their topmost duty and transfer the same legacy to the succeeding generations.

He said that for Pakistan to be economically and politically stable and strong, there is an need for competent, honest and credible leadership to emerge who represents the aspirations of the masses in the real sense and is committed to resolve their problems.

Dr Qadri said that no comprehensive change in the system could come about unless people waged a peaceful struggle for reforms in the electoral system. He said that the system of elections currently in vogue favoured a handful of privileged elite to retain their control of the country’s resources to the detriment of the collective interests of the people. He asked the people to work with the zeal of September 6 for the betterment in the country.
